With our Web Forwarding service, you can only forward an HTTP url to either HTTP or HTTPS. However, some sites are configured with HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) preloaded. This means the domain is hardcoded to always use HTTPS. If you are facing issues with Web Forwarding, your domain might be on the HSTS preloading list.
HSTS Preload Checker
To check if your domain is on the HSTS preloading list, you can use the tool provided below:
About the HSTS Preload List
This list is managed by Google and is utilized by all major web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Edge, and Internet Explorer. A full list of domains added to the HSTS preload list is also publicly available for those interested. To add your website to the HSTS preload list, you can use the hstspreload.org website.
Note on Top-Level Domains and HSTS Preloading
It's important to note that not only individual domains, but entire top-level domains (domain extensions) can also be added to the HSTS preload list. If a registry decides to add its extension(s) to this list, every domain registered under that TLD will be served over HTTPS. The first extensions to leverage the HSTS preload list are .bank and .insurance - extensions that emphasize security. Google Registry has also added .app and .dev to the HSTS preload list.
