Domains hosted under the .kz TLD, the country code top-level domain for Kazakhstan, are subject to specific regulatory requirements related to hosting and DNS usage.
Requirements for .kz Domains
For domains within the .kz namespace, the following requirements apply:
- Hosting for the main domain and subdomains must be located in Kazakhstan. This includes A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), and CNAME records, except for DNS and mail-related records. These records must point to IP addresses assigned to an autonomous system announced within Kazakhstan, and WHOIS data for those IPs must indicate country-KZ.
- DNS hosting and mail services can be located in any country.
- NS (DNS server), MX (mail server), TXT, and SPF records may reference services and IP addresses in any country without restriction.
UltraDNS Considerations
UltraDNS does not currently operate servers that announce from within Kazakhstan. However, authoritative DNS servers are not subject to the local hosting requirement.
This means UltraDNS can be used as the authoritative DNS provider for .kz domains. However, any applicable A, AAAA, or CNAME records must still point to resources hosted within Kazakhstan to remain compliant.
Additional Information
These requirements are based on guidance provided by the Kazakh Network Information Center (KazNIC).
