After you upload your certificate under Domains > Certificate Management, UltraDNS will run validation checks to ensure the files are complete, correct, and usable.
Validation Steps (Behind the Scenes)
UltraDNS will verify:
- Certificate and private key match
- Certificate is not expired
- Certificate is issued by a trusted CA (no self-signed)
- File format is supported:
.crt,.key,.pem - No unsupported characters or file size issues
If all checks pass, your certificate will be marked as active and available for use in the Web Forwards section.
If You See an Error
Here are common causes and what to check:
| Error Message | What It Means | What You Can Do |
|---|---|---|
Token Format Expected |
Typically harmless UI placeholder | Refresh and proceed |
Invalid certificate or key |
Files don’t match | Double-check you uploaded the correct pair |
File type not supported |
Wrong extension or encoding | Re-export in .crt or .pem |
Cert expired or invalid |
Self-signed or expired cert | Request a new certificate from a trusted CA |
