This article explains how to convert an existing A record or CNAME into a Directional DNS pool in UltraDNS.
How to Convert a Record to Directional DNS
- Log in to UltraDNS.
- Click Domains.
- Select the domain where you want to add the directional record.
- Under the A or CNAME Records tab, click + Add Record.
- Enter the hostname under Host. This should match the existing record you are converting, then click Save.
- If adding an A record, a message appears indicating that the hostname already exists and a pool can be created.
- From the Select Pool Type dropdown, select Directional (DIR), then click Save.
- On the next screen, the record is configured as the All Non Configured group. At this stage, all traffic continues to resolve to the existing IP address.
- Configure additional directional pool records as needed.
Important Notes
- The hostname must already exist as a record before converting it to a directional pool.
- Initial configuration retains the existing traffic behavior until additional directional rules are added.
