In this scenario, you're creating the failover pools/records first and then using the pool's hostname as records in the Directional pool which is created afterwards.
- Login at UltraDNS
- Click Domains
- Click on the domain you wish to add load balancing pools to, <ultraexample.com>

Scroll to the record type (ie. A (Address IPv4) and click +Add Pool
- Under Host enter <dc1.ultraexample.com>
- Under Record Type select A or CNAME
- Under Points To enter the IP or hostname of destination
- Under TTL enter 30

Under Pool Type select the load balancing pool type
- Select Traffic Controller
- Press Save
- At this point, a pool has been created and you see this screen
Pool Information (current view from tabs left to right -> Probe Definitions, Scheduled Events, Notifications, Alerts)

Click +Add Record to the right of Records ListÂ
- Under Points To enter the IP you want to failover to in the event the first IP/CNAME fails (ie. stops resolving)
- Under Failover Delay leave at 0 default value
- Under Weight leave at 2 default value

Under All Fail box check to make this record the failover record
- After selecting this, the items h to j are grayed out and k is removed then press Save

Under Probe Threshold leave at 1 default value
- Under Record State leave at Normal default value
- Under Probes leave at Enabled default value

Under Priority leave at 1 default value if record is to serve at same time as any other record(s) set to a Priority 1 value
- Enter a higher value if the record is to be next on the list to serve (ie. set to 2 if you want record to serve after other record(s) with a Priority of 1)
- Press Save
Additional Information under Pool Information
After creating the records, you'll see all of them showing as serving with green check marks. If you only want 1 record serving at a time, under Max Active to LB will display ALL so change that to 1.

Press Probe Definitions next to Pool Information to configure probing

icon for information on creating the probe record
- Press the
- Repeat steps 2 - 6 to create another Traffic Controller pool for Datacenter 2
- Create a Directional Pool using the Traffic Controller pools as Directional records
