This article explains how to manually create a new Primary domain in the UltraDNS Managed Services Portal without importing existing zone data.
A Primary domain is managed directly in UltraDNS, and selecting None under Record Import creates the domain without using Zone Transfer, Copy Domain, or Load a Domain File.
When to Use This Article
- You need to create a new domain in UltraDNS.
- You want the domain created as a
Primarydomain. - You do not want to import existing records during domain creation.
- You plan to add DNS records manually after the domain is created.
Before You Begin
- Confirm that you can log in to the UltraDNS Managed Services Portal.
- Confirm that you have permission to create domains in the target account.
- Confirm the exact domain name that you want to create.
Steps
- Log in to UltraDNS.
- Click
Domains. - Click
+ Add Domain. - Enter the domain name in the
Domain Namefield. - From the
Typedrop-down menu, selectPrimary. - Under
Record Import, selectNone. - Click
Save.
Expected Outcome
UltraDNS creates the new Primary domain without importing existing zone data.
After the domain is created, UltraDNS creates the default Name Server records and SOA record for the zone.
You can then open the domain from the Domains page to add records, configure DNSSEC, update zone transfer settings, or manage other domain settings as needed.
Important Notes
- Selecting
NoneunderRecord Importmeans no records are copied, transferred, or loaded during domain creation. - If you need to import existing zone data, use the appropriate record import option instead of
None.
