This article explains how to use the Response Comparison Report in UltraDNS to review DNS query response trends, compare response volumes across date ranges, and export report data.
When to Use This Article
- You need to review DNS query response volume over time.
- You need to compare daily or hourly response activity.
- You need response trend data for one or more zones.
- You need to export Response Comparison Report data to a
.CSVfile.
Before You Begin
- You must be able to log in to the UltraDNS Managed Services Portal.
- You must have access to the account or zones you want to report on.
- Reporting time frames are returned in the
GMTtime zone. - The current date, determined by
GMT, cannot be selected for this report.
About the Response Comparison Report
The Response Comparison Report displays zone response volume for an account.
The report includes two views: Daily Total and Hourly.
The Daily Total view shows total response counts by date.
By default, this view displays the previous seven days of responses for the selected account.
The Hourly view shows response activity by hour.
This view helps compare response activity across individual days and against the average response activity for the selected time period.
Steps to View DNS Query Response Trends
- Log in to the UltraDNS Managed Services Portal.
- Select Reports from the left-hand navigation pane.
- Select Response Comparison.
- Select either Daily Total or Hourly.
- Select the Date Range for the report.
- Select one or more zones from the Zone Name field.
- If available, select the account or accounts from the Account Name field.
- Select Apply to refresh the report with the selected criteria.
Date Range Limits
- In Daily Total view, the date range can include up to 31 days and can go back as far as 13 months.
- In Hourly view, the date range can include up to 31 days and can go back as far as 90 days.
- The current date, based on
GMT, cannot be selected.
Export the Report
- Confirm the report displays the expected date range, zones, and account selection.
- Select Export CSV.
- Download the generated
.CSVfile when it is available.
Expected Outcome
UltraDNS displays DNS query response volume for the selected report view, date range, zones, and account selection.
If you export the report, UltraDNS generates a .CSV file containing the report details currently displayed in the Response Comparison details table.
Verification
- Confirm the selected report view is either Daily Total or Hourly.
- Confirm the date range matches the intended reporting period.
- Confirm the selected zones are included in the report.
- Confirm the exported
.CSVfile downloads successfully.
