This article explains how to create a secondary domain in UltraDNS using an UltraDNS-provided TSIG key.

When to Use This Article
- You need to configure a secondary domain in UltraDNS.
- You are using an UltraDNS-provided TSIG key for zone transfers.
- You need to configure primary and backup primary name servers for a secondary zone.
Prerequisites
Before creating the secondary domain, confirm that the domain exists on the primary name server, backup primary name server, and second backup primary name server if applicable.
You must also whitelist UltraDNS AXFR IP addresses on the primary name server to allow zone transfers.

How to Create a Secondary Domain with an UltraDNS-Provided TSIG Key
- Log in to the UltraDNS portal.
- Select the Domains tab.
- Click + Add Domain.
- Enter the full domain name.
- Select Secondary Domain.
- Enter the Primary Name Server (required).
- Select the Use TSIG Key checkbox.
- Select the Auto-generate Key checkbox.
- Enter the first backup primary name server (optional).
- Select the Use TSIG Key checkbox for the backup server if required (optional).
- Enter the second backup primary name server (optional).
- Select the Use TSIG Key checkbox for the second backup server if required (optional).
- Enter a notification email address (optional).
- Enter a change comment (optional).
- Click Save.
Verification
After saving, confirm that the secondary domain appears in the UltraDNS portal and that zone transfers complete successfully.
If zone transfers fail, verify that the UltraDNS AXFR IP addresses are properly whitelisted and that the primary name server is configured correctly.
Important Notes
- The domain must already exist on the primary name server before adding it as a secondary domain in UltraDNS.
- AXFR IP addresses must be whitelisted on the primary server for the zone addition to succeed.
- Use the help icons within the UltraDNS portal for additional field-level details during configuration.
