This article explains how to check whether an UltraDNS maintenance notice about zone transfers or notification settings applies to your account.
These notices apply to accounts that contain one or more Secondary zones.
A Secondary zone is managed in UltraDNS but obtains its DNS data from a primary name server that is managed outside of UltraDNS.
When to Use This Article
- You received a maintenance notice about zone transfers or notify settings.
- You need to determine whether your UltraDNS account contains any
Secondaryzones. - You need to know whether action is required for the maintenance notice.
Before You Begin
- You need access to the UltraDNS portal.
- You need access to the account referenced by the maintenance notice.
- If your account contains Secondary zones, you may also need access to your primary DNS provider or primary name server configuration.
Steps
- Log in to UltraDNS.
- Click Domains.
- In the left-hand navigation pane, check the value next to Secondary.
- Review the value:
- If the value is
0, your account does not contain any Secondary zones. Maintenance notices related to zone transfers or notify settings for Secondary zones do not require action for this account. - If the value is greater than
0, your account contains one or more Secondary zones. Review the maintenance notice and update your zone transfer ACLs and/or notification settings as instructed.
- If the value is
Expected Outcome
After checking the Secondary value, you can determine whether the maintenance notice requires action for your account.
If your account has no Secondary zones, no Secondary-zone maintenance action is required for that account.
If your account has one or more Secondary zones, review the maintenance notice and make the required changes with your primary DNS provider or primary name server administrator.
Important Notes
- Secondary zones depend on zone transfers from a primary name server outside UltraDNS.
- Changes related to transfer ACLs or notify settings may need to be made outside the UltraDNS portal, depending on where the primary DNS service is managed.
- For assistance with primary name server configuration, consult the documentation for your primary DNS provider.
