When Valimail Monitor is enabled in UltraDNS, the system evaluates each domain and creates or updates DMARC records where allowed. This process is automated and does not modify email delivery behavior.
What Happens During Enablement
UltraDNS performs a bulk operation across all domains in the account.
- If no DMARC TXT record exists, one is created
- If a DMARC record exists, it is preserved
- The Valimail reporting address is added to the
ruafield - The DMARC policy is not changed
New records use p=none, which enables monitoring only and does not affect email delivery.
Domain Eligibility Rules
Not all domains are modified. Domains are skipped if they do not meet eligibility requirements.
- Multiple DMARC TXT records exist
- An existing Valimail configuration is present
- A DMARC record exists within a DNS pool
- The domain is configured as a secondary or alias zone
- Certain DNSSEC signing configurations prevent modification
Understanding the Enablement Result
A successful enablement message indicates the process completed without error. It does not mean that all domains were modified.
- Eligible domains are updated
- Ineligible domains are skipped
- Skipped domains are not counted as failures
Task Notification
After enablement completes, a task notification appears in the UltraDNS portal.
- Displays how many domains were processed
- Includes a link to begin Valimail setup
Important Notes
- Changes are DNS-based only
- Email delivery is not affected
- Monitoring mode uses
p=none
