View Weekly Hostname Query Volume in UltraDNS

This article explains how to view weekly hostname query volume in UltraDNS using the Query Analytics report. The Host Query Volume Report shows aggregated query volume for hostnames within a selected zone.

When to Use This Article

• You need to view which hostnames received DNS queries during a selected week.
• You need to review hostname query volume for a specific UltraDNS zone.
• You need to drill down from zone-level query volume to hostname-level query volume.

Before You Begin

• Query Analytics data is not real time. Same-day query data is not available in this report.
• The current date, based on GMT, cannot be selected in the report date range.
• The selected date range cannot exceed 31 days.
• You must select at least one zone before the Host Report button becomes available.

Steps

1. Log in to UltraDNS.
2. Select Reports from the left navigation menu.
3. Select Query Analytics.
4. In the Date Range field, select the first day of the week you want to review.
5. Select the last day of the same week.
6. Select Apply.
7. In the zone details table, select the checkbox next to the zone you want to review.
8. Select Host Report.
9. Review the hostname query volume results.

How to Filter the Host Query Volume Report

After opening the Host Query Volume Report, you can use the available filters to narrow the results.

• Use Host Name to search for a specific hostname.
• Use Zone Name to add or remove zones from the report.
• Use Date Range to adjust the reporting period.
• Select Apply after changing filter values.
• Select Reset to clear configured filters, except for selected zone entries.

Expected Outcome

The Host Query Volume Report displays hostname-level query volume for the selected zone and date range. The highest queried hostnames are displayed in the report results, allowing you to identify which hostnames received the most DNS query traffic during the selected week.

Export the Report

Select Export to generate a .csv file for the Host Query Volume Report results currently displayed on the screen.

Important Notes

• Query Analytics provides aggregated query volume. It does not provide real-time DNS query visibility.
• If the current date is included in the week you want to review, select only the completed previous dates that are available in the report.
• If you do not see the expected zone, confirm that you have access to that zone and account.
