View Monthly Hostname Query Volume in UltraDNS

This article explains how to view hostname query volume for a monthly date range in UltraDNS using the Query Analytics report and the Host Report drill-down view.

When to Use This Article

• You need to view the most queried hostnames for a zone during a specific month.
• You need hostname-level query volume instead of only zone-level query volume.
• You need to review query data for a prior month in Query Analytics.

Before You Begin

• Query Analytics data is not real-time.
• The current date, based on GMT, cannot be selected in the report.
• The Date Range cannot exceed 31 days.
• Monthly hostname reports must be run one month at a time.
• The date range cannot go back more than 13 months.
• You must select at least one zone before the Host Report button becomes available.

Steps

1. Log in to UltraDNS.
2. Select Reports from the left navigation menu.
3. Select Query Analytics.
4. In the Date Range field, select the calendar icon.
5. Select the first day of the month you want to review.
6. Select the last day of the same month.
7. Select Apply.
8. In the zone details table, select the checkbox next to the zone you want to review.
9. Select Host Report.
10. Review the hostname query details.
    • The Top 5 Queried Hosts chart displays the highest queried hostnames by response volume.
    • The host details table lists hostname query volume for the selected zone and date range.
    • Selecting a hostname updates the Responses for Host chart for that hostname.
11. To review a specific hostname, enter the hostname in the Host Name field and select Apply.

Expected Outcome

UltraDNS displays hostname-level query volume for the selected zone and monthly date range. The highest queried hostnames appear at the top of the Host Query Volume Report results.

Exporting the Results

Select Export from the Host Query Volume Report to generate a .csv file for the currently displayed hostname data. The export uses the filtering criteria currently applied on the report.

Important Notes

• The Host Report view is a drill-down report from Query Analytics. You must first select a zone from the zone details table.
• If you need to review more than one month, run the report separately for each month.
• If the selected month has more than 31 days, use a 31-day range that matches the report requirement.
• Use Reset to clear configured filters except for the selected zone names.
• Use Back to return from the Host Query Volume Report to the Query Analytics landing page.
